As this is my first post I do not expect people visiting in droves to read it. This blog will mainly be my private place to write about my interests and scribble down what I find interesting from one day to the next. If somebody happens to enjoy my writings all the better.

I just read a post by Chris Kresser about B12 deficiency that I find interesting. In short, he states, B12 deficiency can have detrimental effect on both physical and mental health. According to Kresser, B12 deficiency causes cognitive decline that can mimic the signs and symptoms of a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum disorders, depression and anxiety, to name a few, in addition to having a negative effect on a number of conditions more closely associated with the physical body (I’m a bit uncomfortable with the separation of mind and body, which is I choose my words in this manner).

While I haven’t gone back to the original sources myself and therefore need to take his words for this, I find this interesting, as I firmly believe a balanced intake of real food is one of the most important things you need to do for your mental health. The brain is just an organ people – and you are just organisms just like the flower outside your window. You need to take care of your most basic needs if you expect to function normally. There’s no way around this one.

It’s also worth a mention that B12 is the only vitamin that you cannot get from a plant based source, so it’s imperative that vegetarians and vegans take a B12 supplement. More on that in Kresser’s post.

In other news, me and my boyfriend bought a house yesterday. Well, we still need to wait a few days until the loan application is approved to get the keys, but the papers were signed yesterday, so the little gem is ours.

We’ll need to do a LOT of work on it, but that’s just part of the charm. We’re very excited about this!
